The Afroracotis (Herbuloracotis) argillacea species-group

Diagnosis. The taxa of this species-group show a distinctive yellowish or ochreous wing colouration. The configuration of the clasping apparatus is very similar to that of the A. apodosima species-group having a simple, narrow triangular, apically rounded uncus flexed ventrad; however, the costal sclerotisation of the valva is noticeably weaker and the vinculum is somewhat longer than in the A. apodosima group. A highly characteristic feature of the A. argillacea complex is the presence of a single, well-developed, (in most species) very long and robust, dagger- or sword-shaped cornutus. The female genitalia of the taxa of the species-group are characterized by the rather broad ostium bursae, the short, saucer- or plate-like antrum and the extensive, heavily sclerotised, rugose, indistinct cervix bursae which is fully integrated into the corpus bursae, covering more than two-thirds of its length.
