Description
An earthquake is the most destructive disaster among natural disasters that cannot be anticipated or predicted in advance. Disasters such as landslides, floods and avalanches can be partially predicted by giving some symptoms in advance. Although earth scientists have given some information about fault lines, they cannot determine where, when, on what day and at what time earthquakes will occur. The aim of this article is to discuss how to overcome the problems that arise after earthquakes, based on the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. This article will not elaborate on other types of disasters, nor will it dwell on the causes of earthquakes. Rescue activities immediately after the earthquake and the post-earthquake debris removal process will also not be mentioned. Nor will it talk about what happened during the hot hours and days of the earthquake. Even the mourning process that continues immediately after the earthquake will not be mentioned. How will the psychological, social and economic problems faced during the transition to normal life after the hot hours and days of the earthquake have passed be overcome? Who will provide psychological, social and economic support in the light of these problems? What are the social networks that the person or persons have in this regard? Are people’s social networks sufficient to solve these problems? In this context, answers are sought to the following questions: What is and should be the role of non-governmental organizations, voluntary organizations, religious institutions, the private sector, local governments and central governments? In this article, an analysis will be made based on the earthquakes that have occurred in eleven provinces in Turkey in recent months and suggestions will be developed regarding the problem.
