L'algoritmo nelle trame del lavoro immateriale
Creators
Description
This paper discusses the meaning of the algorithm with regard to the current relations of social production, especially its functioning within the capital-labor relationship. Initially, in accordance with Antonio Negri’s categories, the algorithm emerges as the extension of the computerization and digitization processes of the current production system, which goes beyond the walls of the factory, representing an investment of one’s entire life, and which have as their production engine: knowledge, language and affect. Therefore, starting from this assumption, we use Antonio Negri’s theoretical concepts, elaborated upon Foucault and Guattari’s categories, which regard immaterial work as a hegemonic element necessary for the functioning of postmodern capitalism. Alongside intangible work, a new kind of work is examined, namely the digital in accordance with Casilli, Terranova and Mezzadra’s categories. Regarding digital work, the close connection between the algorithm and the forms of extractivism of platform or network capitalism is evidenced. Finally, through the Marxist concept of General Intellect, the way the algorithm upsets some distinctions established by Marx emerges: a new configuration of labor subjectivity via the appropriation of fixed capital appears, then work, although increasingly autonomous from capital, can be considered as continuing under its command.
