Description
The Book Analytics Dashboard Project (2022-2025) is focused on creating a sustainable OA Book focused analytics service. This service is needed to safeguard and support diversity in the voices, perspectives, geographies, topics and languages made visible through OA Books. Funded by the Mellon Foundation, the Book Analytics Dashboard project is building on an earlier Mellon-funded initiative: Developing a Pilot Data Trust for OA eBook Usage (2020 – 2022). In addition to scaling workflows, infrastructure and customer support, the Demonstration Project is developing a long-term plan for housing, maintenance and funding of the analytics service as a sustainable community infrastructure.
A key deliverable for Work Package 1: Technical Roadmap Consultation: Developing a Process and Model is the creation of a draft technical roadmap that will underpin core technical work throughout the 3-year project. We have decided to focus on the technical priorities on a year by year basis, producing updated technical roadmaps for each year of the project.
For the first year (2022-2023), a draft technical roadmap was developed by the project team and provided as a commentable public document that we shared with the publishers and stakeholder communities engaged with the Book Analytics Dashboard (BAD) demonstration project. The draft technical roadmap was intended to allow us to capture feedback on technical development priorities for the first year of the BAD project (2022-2023). The draft technical roadmap was also a first step in a community consultation process that will be tested and developed over the course of the BAD project. Our aim is to develop a robust process for community consultation that will feed into an annual cycle of technical development of the Book Analytics Dashboard service capabilities; as well as reporting, governance and accountability.
Once feedback was received, the draft technical roadmap was revised to this updated document to be shared with the community. This updated technical roadmap formed the basis of the technical work that we do over the first 12 months of the BAD project.
