Terrapins are not infrequently caught by anglers in southern Africa. Although oesophageal lacerations caused by fish hooks are surgical emergencies that require prompt repair with meticulous technique, few cases appear to have been reported. Three cases of differing degrees of severity are presented to illustrate approaches to surgical management.eng
