NO ------------------- GENERAL INFORMATION ------------------- Title of Dataset: Hydrochemistry of the Leverett Glacier proglacial river, Southwest Greenland (2009-2012) DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.7410609 Name: Guillaume Lamarche-Gagnon Institution: UiT The Arctic University of Norway Email: guillaume.lamarche-gagnon@uit.no ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3444-7834 This dataset describes the dissolved major ion (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, Cl-, SO4 2-), nutrient (NO3-, NH4+, PO4 3-, DSi, TDN) and organic carbon (DOC) concentrations in the proglacial river of the Leverett Glacier (LG) in Southwest Greenland for the 2009, 2010 and 2012 melt seasons. The data have already been part of 3 different publications (Lawson et al. 2014, Hawkings et al. 2015, Wadham et al. 2016) but are archived here for the first time. For similar data at LG and/or Kiattut Sermia (South Greenland) for the 2015 and 2013 melt seasons, respectively, see Hatton et al. 2018 (full citation below). -------------------- DATA & FILE OVERVIEW -------------------- File List: 00_readme.txt (this file) 01_LG_hydrochem_ppb_2009_12.csv ----------------- VARIABLES & UNITS ----------------- Variable/Column List: ### all concentrations are reported in µg L-1 (ppb) -year: year of sampling -date: date of sampling (yyyy-mm-dd) -time: time of sampling (hh:mm) -doy: day of the year (julian day) -Na: sodium ion concentration -K: potassium ion concentration -Mg: magnesium ion concentration -Ca: calcium ion concentration -Cl: chloride ion concentration -SO4: sulphate ion concentration -NO3: nitrate ion concentration -NH4: ammonium ion concentration -TDN: total dissolved nitrogen concentration -PO4: phosphate ion concentration -Si: dissolved silicon concentration -DOC: dissolved organic carbon conentration -------------------------- METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION -------------------------- Approximate sampling location: 67.063° N, 50.201° W Bulk meltwater samples for geochemical analysis were collected at least once a day (2009, 2010, 2012), from a sampling site located ~1 km (2012) or ~2 km (2009, 2010) downstream from the Leverett Glacier terminus, throughout the main melt period (May-August). Grab samples were immediately passed through 47 mm 0.45 μm cellulose nitrate filters (Whatman®), mounted on a PES filtration stack (NalgeneTM) (major ions, NO3, NH4, TDN, PO4, DSi), or pre-furnaced glass filtration apparatus with pre-furnaced GF/F 0.70 μm filters (DOC), that had been rinsed 3 times with the sample. The filtrate was immediately frozen in clean HDPE 30 mL NalgeneTM bottles that had been rinsed 3 times with the filtered sample. Major ion analysis (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, Cl-, SO4 2-) and NO3 - was completed within three months of collection. We used a Thermo ScientificTM DionexTM DX-500 (2009, 2010) or a Thermo ScientificTM DionexTM capillary ICS-5000 (2012), fitted with simultaneous anion and cation columns (Lawson et al. 2014; Hawkings et al. 2015). HCO3- concentrations can be derived from the charge difference between major cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+) and anions (Cl-, SO4 2-) in equivalents units (Lawson et al. 2014). Dissolved macronutrients were measured from the 2012 samples using a LaChat QuickChem® 8500 flow injection analyser system using low level detection methods (Si, PO4 3-, TDN) or by manual colormetric techniques (NH4 +) (Hawkings et al. 2015; Wadham et al. 2016). DOC concentrations as non-purgeable organic carbon, were determined by high temperature combustion (680  C) using a Shimadzu TOCVCSN/TNM-1 analyser equipped with a high-sensitivity catalyst (Lawson et al. 2014). ----------------------------------------- RELATED PUBLICATIONS ----------------------------------------- Lawson, E.
