This is the ReadMe file corresponding to the study entitled: "The effect of shear displacement and wearing rate on fault stability: laboratory constraints" By Noël C., Giorgetti c., Scuderi M.M., Collettini C. and Marone C. This study has been submited in JGR: Solid Earth  This Read-Me file has been last edited in December 2022 This readme file describes the data repository and supplementary files accompanying the above publication. For any further queries please contact corentin.noel@uniroma1.it ***Mechanical data: Each experiment has a .txt file having the experiment number as name. The data are tab separate file, each column is a variable as follow: Column 1: Time(s) Column 2: Normal_stress(MPa) Column 3: Shear_stress(MPa) Column 4: friction Column 5: Shear_disp(mm) Column 6: Normal_disp(mm) The experiments performed on Fontainbeleau sandstone bare surface at constant velocity are: b1089: 3 μm/s b1094: 30 μm/s b1096: 100 μm/s The velocity step experiments performed on quartzite bare surface are: b1179: 3-30 μm/s b1178: 3-100 μm/s b1180: 3-300 μm/s The velocity step experiments performed on Fontainebleau sandstone bare surface are: b1134: 3-30 μm/s b1114: 3-100 μm/s b1124: 3-300 μm/s b1113: 3-100 μm/s (velocity step every 2 mm) The velocity step experiments performed on quartz gouge are: b1145: 3-30 μm/s b1143: 3-100 μm/s b1144: 3-300 μm/s *** Rate-and-state inversion data: Each velocity step experiments has a .xlsx file containing the inversion of each velocity steps.
