HIRDLS Project Structure

The High Resolution Dynamics Limb Sounder (HIRDLS) Instrument Programme is an international joint development project between the USA and UK. The UK team, funded through the UK Natural Environment Research Council, NERC, consists of groups from:

• Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Space Science Department, with subcontractor EADS Astrium UK (formerly MMS)
• University of Oxford, Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Physics, with subcontractor GEC-Marconi
• University of Reading, Department of Cybernetics, Infrared Multilayer Laboratory and their subcontractors.

The USA team, funded by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA, consists of the management team at the Goddard Space Flight Centre, Greenbelt MD, and its subcontractors.

The RAL HIRDLS Project Group coordinates the UK HIRDLS programme activities with those of the collaborating organisations in the USA. It also manages HIRDLS instrument development activities undertaken both at RAL and under subcontract to RAL, and provides the focal point for the UK HIRDLS Project management on the instrument which embraces all collaborating UK organisations.
