MENDELEY COVERAGE AND READERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS OF LIS ARTICLES

Description

Mendeley metrics have become a novel tool for measuring the social impact of the research. This study aims to map the coverage of LIS articles in Mendeley and also to delve into the occupational, geographical and domain-wise readership characteristics. The Webometric Analyst software was used to extract the readership details by querying the article DOIs. As per the findings, a sum of 19433 LIS articles was indexed by Mendeley and 18355 (94.45%) articles got readership with a total readership score of 1041942. The highest readers for LIS articles in Mendeley were Doctoral students with 230220 (26.68%) readers. The domain-wise readership reported the highest intake of articles by the computer science discipline with 163876 readers. As per the location-wise result, the highest readership was logged from the United States with 13956 readers. The study is the first of its kind to assess the Mendeley readership characteristics of LIS articles by using the Altmetric Explorer database.
