Description

The geostan R package supports a complete spatial analysis workflow with Bayesian models for areal data, including a suite of functions for visualizing spatial data and model results. Models were built using Stan, a modeling language and platform for Bayesian inference using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). geostan is designed primarily for public health research but is generally applicable to modeling areal data. Unique features of the package include its spatial measurement error models (for inference with small area estimates such as those from the American Community Survey), its relatively fast proper CAR models, and its eigenvector spatial filtering methodology.

This version of the software corresponds to the JOSS publication, with the GitHub repository at https://github.com/ConnorDonegan/geostan.
