DISTRIBUTION: Falkland Islands.
STATUS: IUCN - Extinct.
SYNONYMS: antarcticus Bechstein, 1799; darwini Thomas, 1914.
COMMENTS: Placed in Dusicyon by Cabrera (1931) and Berta (1987, 1988), and considered as a subgenus separate from other "foxes" (i.e., culpaeus, griseus, gymnocercus, and sechurae) by Langguth (1975) and Van Gelder (1978).
