This README.txt file was generated on 2022-10-28 by Nan Hu GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Title of Dataset: Data from: Ocean acidification and predation risk, in isolation and in combination, show strong effects on marine mussels 2. Date of data collection: 2020 for file 1 2021 for file 2 DATA & FILE OVERVIEW 1. Description of dataset These data were generated to investigate how ocean acidification and predation risk in isolation and combination affect inducible defenses of blue mussels, and to examine the interaction types between ocean acidification and predation risk. 2. File List: File 1 Name: 211128dataset.csv File 1 Description: inducible traits of blue mussels including shell thickness, shell length, shell mass, tissue mass and shell strength File 2 Name: Code Proceedings B File 2 Description: R code of analysis METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION File 1: We performed a common garden experiment where juveniles of blue mussels with different historical contact with crabs were exposed to either a control environment, crab chemical cues, low pH (as a proxy for ocean acidification), or a combination of low pH and crab cue. After 120 days raising, we measured the final shell length, shell thickness, shell mass, tissue mass and shell strength of blue mussels. File 2: ANCOVA models run in R as well as plotting codes of ggplot2. DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR: 211128dataset.csv 1. Number of variables: 12 2. Number of cases/rows: 356 3. Variable List: tank:identity of each tank for specify random effects in ANCOVA models population: 2 levels, east and west mussels pH: 2 levels, normal and low pH crab: 2 levels, absence and presence treatment: Experimental treatments including Control, low pH and crab cue, and combination initial length shell length: final (after experiments) shell length of snails shell mass: final shell mass tissue mass: final soft tissue mass shell strength shell thickness
