COMMENT: Van Gelder, 1978:1-10 included Alopex, Atelocynus, Cerdocyon, Pseudalopex, Lycalopex, Dusicyon, and Vulpes as subgenera. However, this arrangement is not currently employed by most mammalogists; see Corbet, 1978:161; Corbet and Hill, 1980; Hall, 1981:923; Gromov and Baranova, 1981:239.
