21. Atta antarctica. B.M.

Formica antarctica, White, Zool. Erebus & Terror, pt. 2. Female. Length 3 1/2 lines,-Ferruginous: head narrower than the thorax; the antennae dark fusco-ferruginous, with the basal joints of the flagellum and the apex of the scape ferruginous. Thorax: a black stripe on each side of the disk of the mesothorax, and an abbreviated central one in front; the sutures of the scutellum, post-scutellum, and a patch on each side of the pectus, black; the legs more or less nigro-piceous, with the articulations and the tarsi pale. The abdomen with a black fascia on the apical margins of all the segments.
