Distribution. Peru. Recorded in Chile, Region of Magallanes and Antártica Chilena, Antártica Chilena Province, for the first time.

Remarks. Trombicula macrochaeta Brennan and Jones, 1961 was described by 3 specimens (holotype and 2 paratypes) with broken sensilla. This defect resulted in erroneous identification of the tribe this species belongs to. Vercammen-Grandjean (1965 a) placed it in the species group kallipygos within the genus Guntherana Womersley and Heaslip, 1943, implying that this species should have expanded sensilla, as all members of Schoengastiini. Thorough examination of the description led us to the conclusion that this species undoubtedly belongs to the genus Proschoengastia.
