Material examined. 4 adult females, 8 mancae (MGAB CUM 1719), El Seco, Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, Caribbean Sea, 18°07'24.8520"N, 65°12'05.7600"W, 71 m, January 17, 2010, collected during the 2010 UPRM- DMS Mesophotic cruise.
Diagnosis. Carapace, maxillipeds and pereopods similar to those found in Campylaspis species. Antenna 2 in male with lanceolate sensory setae on 4th and 5th article. Three pairs of exopods in female, 4 pairs in male. Uropodal peduncle shorter than pleonite 6.
Remarks. Cubanocuma gutzui was first described from Cuba, 3 m depth, in muddy sand with Thalassia seagrass (Băcescu & Muradian, 1977a); also reported from Bermuda by Markham & Sterrer (1986), Petrescu & Sterrer (2001), from Jamaica (Petrescu et al., 1993), Bahamas (Petrescu, 1996, 2003) and Honduras (Petrescu, 2003). Cubanocuma gutzui was found in Guana (British Virgin Islands), Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, southeast Florida and the Gulf of Mexico (Heard et al., 2006).
The present record is the first report of this species from Puerto Rico.
Distribution. Cuba, Bermuda, Jamaica, Bahamas, Honduras, Guana (British Virgin Islands), southeast Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands. Depth range: 1– 60 m.
