Lygosoma (Emoa) impar WERNER (1898: 553)

Syntype: ZISP 9144 (one specimen), “ Neu Britannia ” [Bismark Archipelago, Papua New Guinea]. Received from F. Werner in 1898.

Present name: Emoia impar (Werner, 1898) fide Ineich & Zug (1991).

Remarks: Additional syntypes are ZMB 14661, 14662 from “ Ralum ” [Bismark Archipelago, Papua New Guinea] and ZMB 15204, 15204 A-D from “ Mioko ” [Mioko Island, Bismark Archipelago, Papua New Guinea] (Bauer et al. 2003). Werner reported a type series of 12 specimens, from “ Ralum und Mioko ”, collected by Dahl. The syntypes were reported lost, and a neotype (NMW 9965.1) was designated by Ineich & Zug (1991) who stated that the type series had been lodged in NMW and had been lost or destroyed. The discovery of a portion of the original type series by Bauer et al. (2003) invalidates the neotype designation.
