Tinodes ivanovi Gibon 2017, n. sp.

Description

Tinodes ivanovi n. sp.

Figs 2 A–2C

Diagnosis. Tinodes ivanovi n. sp. is similar to T. tafo n. sp. However, in T. ivanovi n. sp., the asymmetry of the intermediate appendage is stronger, the apex of the left branch is enlarged, and there is only one spine on each branch (three in T. tafo n. sp.).

Description. General color brown, with dorsal sclerites slightly darker, wings brown with few small hyaline areas. Length of each forewing 3.2 mm and of each hind wing 2.5 mm. Forewing forks 2, 3, 4, and 5; crossveins r (R1–R2+3), rs (R2+3–R4), and cu (Cu1–Cu2); small hyaline areas between R4+5 and M1+2, between M1+2 and M3+4, and as line along stem of M present. Hind wing forks 2 and 5, two anal veins, and crossvein r (R1–R2+3) present.

Male genitalia (Figs 2 A–2C): Sternite IX produced much more posterad than anterad, almost triangular as viewed laterally; dorsal part of tergite IX as long as first segment of each inferior appendage. Tergite X indistinct. Preanal appendages longer than intermediate appendage branches and phallic apparatus and bearing fine setae. Intermediate appendage divided, beyond mid-length, into two asymmetrical branches; left branch apically enlarged and more strongly curved ventrad; one long spine directed distad and inserted just before apex of each branch of intermediate appendage. Inferior apendage two-segmented; first segment subtrapezoidal; second segment threebranched: one ventral branch, short, directed ventrad bearing two obvious setae; two dorsal branches, including short, slightly curved external branch with few thin setae, and long, strongly curved internal branch. Phallic guide sinuous as viewed laterally, anterior end slender and directed anteroventrad, posteriorly divided into pair of slender processes curved dorsad in lateral view and hooked outward in ventral view. Phallic apparatus long, enlarged and curved ventrad apically, with two internal sclerites: Proximal sclerite large and straight and distal sclerite short, spine-shaped.

Holotype: Male, mounted on two slides. MADAGASCAR: Anatsirnana Prov., Amber Mountain, waterfalls, Rivière des Makis, 12°29′17′′S, 49°10′14′′E, 675 m a.s.l., 2.iv.1994, light-trap, F.- M. Gibon leg. (CBGP).

Etymology. This species is dedicated to V. D. Ivanov in tribute to his contributions to the knowledge of Trichoptera.

Distribution. MADAGASCAR: Endemic. Recorded from only Amber Mountain (Fig. 7).
