Identification. Test oval; tapering posteriorly to blunt end, sunken towards peristome. Interambulacra V slightly inflated, hood above periproct. Sub-anal fasciole conspicuous in juveniles, less so in adults.

Global maximum size. Maximum test length 50 mm.

Global distribution. West coast of South Africa, Atlantic, sub-Antarctic and North Pacific, at 770–4400 m depth (Schultz 2010).

Remarks. Differs from Pourtalesia alcocki in lacking the distinctive keel running along the upper side and hook above periproct. The labrum and sternal plates of U. naresianus are not separated, as in P. alcocki.
