Barleriaquinone-I, a cytotoxic anthraquinone, has been isolated from the heartwood of Tectona grandis Linn.,
along with previously reported lapachol, tecomaquinone-I, deoxylapachol, tectoquinone, stigmasterol and dehydro-α-lapachone.
This is the first report on the isolation of barleriaquinone-I from this plant as well as from the family
Verbenaceae. A detailed spectral data of the compound together with its HMBC correlations are reported.
