Circumglobal; western Pacific Ocean north to southern Japan (Yoshino and Aonuma in Nakabo 2002); Cape Mendocino, northern California (Preti et al. 2008) to Gulf of California (Eschmeyer and Herald 1983); Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997); Colombia to Chile (Ebert 2016). Depth: surface to 955 m (3,132 ft) (Coelho et al. 2015).
