Dynamic Philanthropy - A Framework for Supporting Transformative Climate Governance in the Digital Age

Description

Digital technologies show immense capabilities to accelerate climate efforts and reduce our emissions, but they can also exacerbate inequalities and unsustainable consumption if proper governance is not in place. The current climate governance system must therefore be re-imagined and transformed to one that is capable of accelerating our climate efforts in the digital age in a sustainable and inclusive way. Catalytic actors such as philanthropy can play an important role in facilitating this transition, bringing us closer to our climate goals.

This report, produced in consultation with diverse experts working at the intersection of digital technology, climate action, and finance, presents a strategic framework to support transformative climate governance in the digital age. The framework represents key action areas that are important for philanthropy and others when developing and supporting digitally enabled and effective climate solutions. The report also discusses the findings of a Digital Climate Projects Database, a collection of over 200 initiatives leveraging digital tools to strengthen climate action.

The Dynamic Philanthropy - A Framework for Supporting Transformative Climate Governance in the Digital Age report is a product of the Re-imagining Climate Governance in the Digital Age project, a collaboration between Sustainability in the Digital Age, Future Earth, and ClimateWorks Foundation.
