Sampling for web surveys

  • 1. InnoRenew CoE

Web surveys are a popular mode to collect data in several social science disciplines as they are less expensive compared to traditional postal, face-to-face and telephone surveys. However, applying desired sampling procedures in web surveys can be very challenging and they are often based on non-probability samples that do not enable the generalisation of results from sample to the population.
In the lecture I provide an overview of the history of survey sampling methods and what are the available sampling procedures for web surveys. Then, I discuss approaches to improve the representativity of web surveys based on a case study of two web surveys in Slovenia, first on the topic of compliance with COVID-19 measures and the second on the topic of COVID-19 vaccination.
