Etymology. The specific name parabrevicollis refers to the similarity of this new species with Metaseiulus brevicollis González & Schuster.

Comments. Metaseiulus parabrevicollis sp. n. belongs to the brevicollis species group with seta R 1 inserted on dorsal shield in the female (Chant & McMurtry, 1994) and resembles M. brevicollis. It differs by having the calyx of spermatheca dish-shaped instead of bell-shaped, seven instead of eight setae on genu II and only one macroseta on leg IV. Both species have five pairs of dorsal solenostomes, but in M. brevicollis gd 1 is absent and gd 5 present while in M. parabrevicollis gd 1 is present and gd 5 absent.
