Description

Nezara antennata Scott, 1874

(Fig. 1 B, 5, 6A–B, 7B, 8B, 9B, 10E–F, 12F–H, 14D–F, 16B, 17B)

Nezara antennata Scott, 1874: 299; Stål, 1876: 91; Distant, 1902: 220; Kirkaldy, 1909: 116; Freeman, 1940: 360; Azim & Shafee, 1978: 508; Zheng, 1982: 195; Rider, 2006: 329

Nezara antennata var. balteata Horváth, 1889: 32 (syn. by Wu, 1933)

Nezara viridula; Takahashi, 1948: 107 –108 (non Linnaeus, 1758) (misidentification, see Ishihara 1950; Rider, 2006: 329)

Diagnosis. Head: apical third of antennal segment III and apical half of IV black. This character is excluive of N. antennata; other species may have these antennal segments darkened but never black. Thorax: ostiolar ruga auriculate, conspicuous. Abdomen: connexival sutures with black or darkened maculae at middle, character absent in N. viridula and N. yunnana. Male: ventral rim of pygophore with brims restricted to posterolateral angles, abruptly ending (Fig. 8B), shared with N. viridula, N. yunnana and N. similis; paramere bilobate, inferior lobe thin (Fig. 8B), character exclusive of this species; median bristles on paramere attached at apex of a short digitiform process directed to lateral surface (Fig. 10 E–F; 12F–H), shared with N. viridula and N. yunnana. Female: posterior margins of gonocoxites 8 sinuous near sutural angles; basal half of laterotergites 9 concave; digitiform processes of capsula seminalis distinct in length, one surpassing anterior annular flange (Fig. 17 B), this character distinguishes N. antennata from N. viridula and N. yunnana.
