FIGURE 1. Different landforms and vegetation types occurring in the Kalamaili Mountain Ungulate Nature Reserve (China: Xinjiang). A. Semi-desert dominated by drought-tolerant shrubs in the families Amaranthaceae, Asteraceae and Tamaricaceae. B. Humid depression with sedges. C. Arid steppe dominated by Stipa glareosa (Poales: Poaceae) and other grasses. D. Water pool with saxaul bush, Haloxylon ammodendron (Amaranthaceae: Salsoloideae).
