Ecology. Eurybathic species, found from the tidal level (Blanco 1984) to a depth of 1379 m (Peña Cantero & Ramil 2006). On bottoms of detritus, mud, sand, stones, boulders, rocks and mixed bottoms (Naumov and Stepanjants 1972; Tang 1991; Peña Cantero et al. 2002). Epibiotic on sponges (Tang 1991; Peña Cantero et al. 2002), hydroids (Naumov & Stepanjants 1972; Peña Cantero et al. 2002), tubes of polychaetes (Naumov & Stepanjants 1972; Peña Cantero et al. 2002; Peña Cantero 2008), ascidians (Naumov & Stepanjants 1972), bryozoans (Peña Cantero & Ramil 2006; Peña Cantero 2008) and dead gorgonians (Peña Cantero & Ramil 2006). Used as substratum by other species of hydroids (Peña Cantero 2008). Gonothecae: January (Peña Cantero et al. 2002; Peña Cantero & Ramil 2006; Peña Cantero 2008), February (Tang 1991; Peña Cantero et al. 2002), and March (Blanco & Bellusci de Miralles 1970).
Distribution. Circum-Antarctic (Peña Cantero & Ramil 2006). West Antarctica: Antarctic Peninsula area: Bahía Esperanza (63 º 24 'S, 56 º 59 'W) (Blanco 1969), 65 º 54 'S, 62 º 53 'W (Blanco & Bellusci de Miralles 1970), Bahía de Punt Vidt, Bryde Island and Sanavirón Peninsula (Blanco 1984) and at 64 º24.5'S, 61 º41.0'W (Tang 1991); the South Shetland Islands (Peña Cantero & Ramil 2006; Peña Cantero 2008) and the south and east coasts of the Weddell Sea (Peña Cantero et al. 2002). East Antarctica: Adélie Land (Naumov & Stepanjants 1972), Friendship Sea (Naumov & Stepanjants 1962) and Davis Sea (Stepanjants 1979).
