Diagnosis: Male unknown. Female with frontal facets moderately enlarged (Fig. 76); frons suffered some shrivelling, at narrowest point ~2.0 times diameter of largest frontal facet (already taken into account the shrivelling); flagellum dark brown; legs dark brown but area around femoral-tibial joint, apex of tibia and tarsi yellowish; pulvilli of front and mid legs twice the length of hind legs and longer than distitarsus; hairs on femora yellow to light brown; hind femur with apical hairs of pdsr extending further than apex; hairs on thorax yellow to light brown; abdomen missing (dissected) but according to Jervis (1992) dark brown with lateral setae of tergite 1 golden; hence, all abdominal hairs should be yellow to light brown; ovipositor as in Fig. 47. No DNA barcode could be obtained.
Annotations: Only known from the female holotype collected in Finland, which was studied (Finland: Runsala, 2097, Frey (MZH)). Jervis (1992) mentions an additional specimen from Scotland — included in Coe (1966) — that fits his concept of C. elegantulus but has badly damaged terminalia. The ovipositor of the holotype was macerated in the past and placed in a microvial containing glycerine attached to the needle. The macerating process has made it almost transparent and the sclerites very soft. Judging from its coloration and length of pulvilli, the taxon should belong to the basalis species group as outlined in Jervis (1992). However, the shape of its ovipositor with its voluminous base also resembles C. marki. No host species is known.
