Anarthrurella gen. nov.

Anarthrura: Holdich & Bird, 1986: 79, 98, table 2.

Type Species. Anarthrurella clairae sp.nov., by monotypy.

Diagnosis. Anarthrurid with pleon normally developed. Labrum conical, not laterally compressed, relatively large. Mandibles not known (probably highly reduced). Maxillule endite with (at least) three spiniform seta. Maxilliped endite simple, with one seta; palp article 3 with three long inner setae. Cheliped propodus with prominent outer fold; with one ventral seta. Pereopods 1–3 stout, coxa with seta. Pereopods 4–6 carpus with three ordinary spiniform setae and one smaller dorsal seta. Pleopods present.

Remarks. A combination of an unmodified labrum and possession of a fold on the cheliped fixedfinger is unique among known genera and the taxa included in this study and is the basis for the erection of a new genus. Additional material is required to pursue the equivocal details about mandible and maxillule structures. The species Leptognathia profunda may also belong in this genus – see below.
