Bahía Santa Maria (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) (labelled as Malacoctenus afuerae) and Cabo San Lucas, southern Baja California (Thomson et al. 1979) to Chile (Grove and Lavenberg 1997), including Gulf of California (Thomson et al. 2000), and Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 25 m (83 ft) (min.: Grove and Lavenberg 1997; max.: Robertson and Allen 2002).
