Circumpolar; Beaufort and Chukchi Seas to Bering Sea and Commander– Aleutian Chain to Puget Sound, Washington; isolated population in Sea of Okhotsk (Mecklenburg et al. 2016). Benthic; depth: 4–930 m (13–3,050 ft) (min.: Allen and Smith 1988; max.: Coad and Reist 2004), typically at less than 200 m (656 ft) (Mecklenburg et al. 2011).
