Clinocottus acuticeps (Gilbert, 1896). Sharpnose Sculpin. To 6.4 cm (2.5 in) TL (Miller and Lea 1972). Attu Island, Aleutian Islands (Gilbert and Burke 1912) to Big Sur River, central California (Miller and Lea 1972); one record from Santa Catalina Island (33°18’N, 118°21’W) (NWFSC-FRAM). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 114 m (373 ft) (min.: Mecklenburg et al. 2002; max. NWFSC-FRAM). Although previously thought to be an intertidal and shallow subtidal species, we note that the NWFSC-FRAM database records 34 individuals captured between 49 and 114 m (161–373 ft). Often in brackish water, occasionally in fresh water (Morrow 1980). Perhaps more properly in the genus Artedius (Knope 2013). Clinocottus (Oxycottus) acuticeps (Buser and López 2015).
