October 20th, 2021 This file contains information related to the presented database of in vitro mutation induction following irradiation with photons and monoenergetic particle beams. This is part of a publication that was submitted for publication in October 2021. We invite you to read carefully what is reported in this document, in order to promote a proper use of the database and to avoid potential misuse due to misunderstandings of its content. The data included in the database were obtained by means of an extensive literature search. Only publications presenting RBE data for both survival and mutation induction were included. RBE always refers to RBE alpha (i.e. the asymptotic RBE for D->0 obtained by the ratio of ion and photon α parameters and indicates the maximum achievable RBE) with the exception of the data from Govorun et al. 2002. A specific ID is assigned to each data entry (i.e. each experimental RBE data), together with information on the cell line and experimental energies/LET. For each entry, alpha and beta values are also reported for survival and mutation induction endpoints both as retrieved from the original publication (when available) and as obtained by performing a linear-quadratic (LQ) fit on raw data for survival and mutation induction. The database consists in 4 Excel sheets contained in the same file: - The sheet “Global” collects the 105 RBE entries on which the database is built. For each entry, the original reference is reported, as well as information on survival and mutation induction as retrieved from the publication (i.e. LQ parameters, RBE). In case the field was not available, this is indicated by “na”. The results of the fit procedure are also reported here; in this case, the symbol “-” indicates that the data was not included for some reason (e.g. an LQ beta parameter missing since the linear fit provided better results). - The two sheets “Survival Data” and “Mutation Data” contain raw data relative to individual survival and mutation curves as extracted from the original publications. Data points were extracted manually with the support of a digitizer tool. The survival/mutation data are linked to the entries of the “Global” sheet by means of the ID field. - The sheet “Summary Table” presents an overview of the data included in the database, reporting also the original references from which the data were extracted. In case you use this database for your research, we ask to include a reference to this work and to the related publication.
