paperChain D2.3 - "Raw materials supply scenario"

Description

The European pulp and paper sector accounts for a total paper and board production of 91 million tonnes, which represents the 22.2 % of the global production (CEPI, 2017). The pulp production reached 36,5 million tonnes and the paper used for recycling 47,6 million tonnes. The sector showed a continuous concentration, but means of a reduction of the number of companies, mills and paper machines, although this has not implied a reduction of the production and turnover, which remained stable or slightly higher.

This report provides an overview on the numbers of the waste production in Europe by the pulp and paper industry, the regional distribution, type of waste and some general characteristics of the type of waste in a country-by-country basis.
