(A) Early spermatogonial prophase; (B) premeiotic interphase (two prominent heteropycnotic bodies represent segments of chromosome X); (C) pachytene (note that sex chromosome does not exhibit heteropycnosis); (D) late pachytene; (E) diplotene (*ring bivalent with two chiasmata); (F) metaphase I (*bivalent exhibiting precocious division); (G) anaphase I; (H) prometaphase II; (I) anaphase II. Arrow identifies sex chromosome. Scale bars: 10 mm.
