ReadMe file for: "Doumayrou et al_trade-off_data.xls" Introduction: -This data file contains life history data (i.e. virulence, transmission rate and within-host accumulation) of nine natural isolates of Cauliflower mosaic virus infecting Brassica rapa to test the virulence-transmission trade-off hypothesis discussed in the manuscript. - Data for Figures 1, 2, 3, S1 and S2 -This file contains two worksheets. The first lists all the life history variables for each individually infected plant used in the published study. The second worksheet lists the transmission data which were used for the GLM analysis. -All data were collected by J. Doumayrou (contact: Juliette.doumayrou@gmail.com) Description: *Column, Headings and description First worksheet named “VTA_28dpi” -A. Isolate/healthy plant: name of the inoculated isolate or control (= “healthy plant”). -B. replicate: replicate number. -C. #_infected_plants: number of recipient infected plants after inoculation by aphids for each donor plant. -D. #_noninfected_plants: number of recipient noninfected plants after inoculation by aphids for each donor plant. -E. total_plants: number of total recipient plants exposed to aphids for each donor plant. -F. leaf_area_0dpi: leaf area of each donor plant at 0 dpi (cm²). -G. leaf_area_14dpi: leaf area of each donor plant at 14 dpi (cm²). -H. leaf_area_22dpi: leaf area of each donor plant at 22 dpi (cm²). -I. leaf_area_28dpi: leaf area of each donor plant at 22 dpi (cm²). -J. relative_leaf_area_14dpi: leaf area of each donor plant at 14 dpi relative to healthy plants according to equation (2) in the manuscript. -K. relative_leaf_area_22dpi: leaf area of each donor plant at 22 dpi relative to healthy plants according to equation (2) in the manuscript. -L. relative_leaf_area_28dpi: leaf area of each donor plant at 28 dpi relative to healthy plants according to equation (2) in the manuscript. -M. treatment: “1” for infected plants and “0” for healthy plants -N. NRQ: virus load relative to the actin load in each infected plant according to equation (1) in the manuscript -O. log10_NRQ : logarithmic transformation applied to NRQ data -P. accumulation_group : “low” corresponds to plants infected by isolates accumulating at low levels and “high” by isolates accumulating at high levels. Second worksheet named “Transmission_binomial_28dpi” -A. Isolate: name of the inoculated isolate. -B. donor_plant: number of donor plants for each isolate. -C. recipieny_plant: number of recipient infected plants after inoculation by aphids for each donor plant and each isolate. -D. infnoninf: for each recipient plant, “1” corresponds to an infected plant and “0” to a non-infected plant 28 days after inoculation by aphids. *Missing data: -Cells with missing data are indicated as “na”
