The package contains six data files (five of them in both *.csv and *.xlsx format, one file in *.txt format) that were used in the analyses of the above mentioned publication.

The structures of the data files are listed below with detailed descriptions of their contents.

Structure and description of data files that were used in the main analyses

1. 01_ species_basic_information.csv:
'data.frame':	85 obs. of 6 variables:
 $ spocode: species code included in the study.
 $ species_name: latin name of species.
 $ Family: “Family” refers to the families that species belonging to. 
 $ lifeform: 3 levels: "T", "U", "S". “T ” refers to Tree species, “U” refers to understory tree species and “S” refers to shrub species.
 $Light_rank: Light rank is divided by Song (2013).
$guild: two levels: “light”, “shade”. “light” refers to “light demanding species”, “shade” refers to “shade tolerant species”.
2. 02_functional_traits.csv:
'data.frame':	85 obs. of 6 variables:
 $ spcode: species code included in the study.
 $ length/width.ratio: leaf length to width ratio. 
 $ SLA: SLA refers to special leaf area. Units: cm2/g.
 $N: “N” refers to leaf nitrogen content (%). 
 $ P: “P” refers to leaf phosphorus content (%). 
$ LA: “LA” refers to leaf area. Units: cm2

3. 03_ Gene_tree_and_related_GO_terms.csv:
'data.frame':	211 obs. of 2 variables:
 $ gene_tree: The 135 gene trees obtained by the RAxML analysis.  $ go_term: The 47 gene ontology terms related to light.

4. 04_ Homologous.genes.numbers.csv:
'data.frame':	85 obs. of 136 variables:
 $ spcode: species code included in the study.
 Column (2:135): the column for 2 to 135 refers to the homologous gene names in each tree.
5. 05_Light_openness.csv:
'data.frame':	600 obs. of 2 variables:
 $ subplot_ID: “subplot_ID” refers to the all the 20 × 20 m subplots ID. 
$ Canopy_openness: canopy openness value in the 3th quadrat (containing seedling plot) of each 20 × 20 subplot. (continuous numeric)

6. 06_Phylogeny:
The file “Phylogeny” refers to the phylogenetic tree of 156 species in Gutianshan Forest dynamics plot.
