Read Me for modelCalibration.csv This file contains data comparing the temperature of aluminum models and caterpillars placed in full sun to verify that color variation had the same effect on each and their temperatures were similar. Columns: Date: DDMMYYYY, day on which caterpillar was tested Time: HH:MM, time of day at which temperature was measured TimeFromStart: Time (in minutes) after the caterpillars and models were placed in sun when temperature was measured Column: Caterpillars and models were placed in an 3x8 array, this represents (models and caterpillars were paired by color in each column, so a given column only contained one color, but one each of model and caterpillar) Row: The row in which the model or caterpillar was placed (smaller models were also measured, but not fully analyzed. They are not reported here, but occupied one row in each column). Color: Color of caterpillar/Model; 2 values R (red) or B (black) Type: whether the object measured was a Model or Caterpillar Volume: volume (mL) of models and caterpillars. Given different materials and density, this was a more appropriate measure of size than mass. Measured by displacement after completing other measurements Temp: Temperature of model or caterpillar (degrees C) measured using infrared camera; see manuscript for more details (the same method was used as for other measurements of model temperature).
