Description

Five breeding lines of perennial wheat (Triticum aestivum x Thinopyrum intermedium) were tested together with winter wheat cultivars 'Capo' and 'Livius' on three organic locations in Bavaria, Germany from 2018-2020. Grain yield of the perennial lines were continuously decreasing over the test years caused by low regrowth due to drought. Already in the second year the perennial lines reached only 9 to 38% of the yield level of 'Capo'. A cultivation of the present perennial wheat material for longer than 2 years can, therefore, not be recommended for the test environments.
