
# Reproduction package for the paper "The EXOD search for faint transients in XMM-Newton observations: Method and discovery of four extragalactic Type I X-ray bursters"

This is a basic reproduction package for the paper "The EXOD search for faint transients in XMM-Newton observations: Method and discovery of four extragalactic Type I X-ray bursters"

## Raw Data

The raw data are publicly available and can be downloaded from the [XMM-Newton Science Archive](http://nxsa.esac.esa.int/nxsa-web/#home).

## Software

The data analysis was carried between an Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS machine and an Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS machine. The software used to reproduce the results is the following:

* The Science Analysis System (SAS) version 16.1.0. was used to reduce the raw data and generate light curves and spectra.
* Additional software combining python and bash scripts was developed. The software, called [EXOD](https://github.com/InesPM/EXOD), is publicly available online. A user guide is available following the github link.
* Xspec version 12.9.1p was used to carry out spectral fitting.

## Figures and Tables

The lightcurves.tar.gz package contains the final data used to produce Figures 5, A.1 and A.2.
The other figures and tables can be recreated from the raw data from the observations listed in observations.txt and the software listed above.
