Roger Grau-Andrés (roger.grau.andres@slu.se or rogergrau@yahoo.es) David A. Wardle Marie-Charlotte Nilsson Hegethorn Paul Kardol October 2020 This file explains the variables in the file "BryoC_GPP_ER_NEE_201020.csv", which includes data related to CO2 flux measurements in the mesocosms. The data is described in the paper "Precipitation regime controls bryosphere carbon cycling similarly across contrasting ecosystems", published in the journal Oikos. Please refer to the paper for further details. meso_id: ID of the mesocosm. speriod: sampling period, i.e., period in which the measurements were carried out. Period 1: 2018-10-02 to 2018-10-21, period 2: 2018-10-22 to 2018-11-10, period 3: 2018-11-11 to 2018-11-30, period 4: 2018-12-01 to 2018-10-20. w_d: moisture conditions along the watering cycle when the measurement was taken, either 'dry' (i.e., just before the water addition treatment) or 'wet' (i.e., just after water addition). NEE_mgC_m2_h: net ecosystem exchange, in milligrams of carbon per square meter per hour, measured with the clear closed chamber uncovered (i.e., in light conditions). ER_mgC_m2_h: ecosystem respiration, in milligrams of carbon per square meter per hour, measured by covering the closed chamber with an opaque cover (i.e., in the dark). GPP_mgC_m2_h: gross primary productivity, in milligrams of carbon per square meter per hour, calculated by subtracting ER to NEE. In all flux measurements, negative values indicate a net CO2 flux from the atmosphere to the mesocosm.
