Primnoisis (Primnoisis) antarctica Wright & Studer, 1889

Distribution: Marion Islands, Off Prince Edward Island, 567 m (Wright & Studer 1889); Weddel Sea (71°05’S, 13°01’E), 60–500 m (Orejas et al. 2003); Antarctic Peninsula, (64°49.4’S to 64°49.5’S), 120–148 m (Bayer & Stefani, 1987); Burdwood bank (125–177 m) (present study).

Remarks: This is a common Antarctic species, likely being a pioneer species in bottoms recently disturbed (Orejas et al. 2000). It is also one of the few Antarctic octocorals for which information on its feeding behavior is available (Orejas et al. 2003). This is the first record of the species in the Burdwood bank and at MPA Namuncurá I.
