Lycopsis pulla Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 916. 1759, nom. illeg.

["Habitat in Tataria, Germania."] Sp. Pl. 1: 198 (1753). RCN: 1114.

Lectotype (Kazmi in J. Arnold Arbor. 52: 676. 1971): Herb. Linn. No. 190.2 (LINN).

Current name: Nonea pulla (L.) DC. (Boraginaceae).

Note: There are some difficulties with this name. Lycopsis pulla Loefl., Iter Hispanicum: 302, 66, 81 (1758) appears to be based on a Löfling collection (190.6 LINN) from Spain (López González & Jarvis in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 40: 343. 1984), which is not the designated type of L. pulla L. (1759). The type of the later name (190.2 LINN) is identifiable as the Central and Eastern European species widely known as Nonea pulla which does not occur in Spain. The 1759 name is therefore illegitimate, and a conservation proposal may be necessary to ensure its use in its traditional sense.
