Passiflora quadrangularis Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 1248. 1759.

["Habitat in Jamaica."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1356 (1763). RCN: 6923.

Lectotype (Cervi in Fontqueria 45: 15. 1997): Browne, Herb. Linn. No. 373.15 (S).

Current name: Passiflora quadrangularis L. (Passifloraceae).

Note: Killip (in Publ. Field Mus. Nat. Hist., Bot. Ser. 19: 337. 1938) indicated a Browne specimen in LINN as type but the only material there associated with this name came later from Surinam, via Dahlberg, and is not original material for the name. Noting the absence of Browne material in LINN, de Wilde (in Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Passifloraceae: 15. 1975) suggested that a holotype might possibly be sought in S, while Bornstein (in Howard, Fl. Lesser Antilles 5: 380. 1989) indicated Browne’s cited description as the type. However, the latter is contrary to Art. 8.1.
