Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Pagellus centrodontus, Delar. by Gruvel (1931: 92); recently recorded as Pagellus bogaraveo by Aguillar et al. (2018: 82).

Distribution. Western Baltic Sea, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Sea of Marmara, eastern Atlantic: Norway and Iceland south to Mauritania, including Madeira.

Conservation. IUCN: Global (NT: 17 August 2009); Med. (LC: 13 November 2007). Capture and threats: FIT, Unknown. Occurrence: Common. Low priority for conservation action.
