D2.1 Initial results in D-band directional links analysis, system performance assessment, and algorithm design

Description

The directional links, their analysis, and related algorithm design are very important in the high frequency systems due to large path losses requiring utilization of high gain antennas. In this respect, the Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) have been very interesting research topic lately because they allow manipulation of radio propagation environment by intelligently reflecting the EM radiation towards the user as required, which gives great benefits in the non-line-of-sight situations. If the line of sight is available, traditional beamforming at the transmitter and receiver sides can help with mitigating the channel losses and provides ability for tracking mobile users. This deliverable presents the initial results on D-band directional links’ analysis including algorithm designs, channel estimation, RIS beamforming, and performance analysis of directional links. The D-band beamforming with RISs is a complex subject that requires many aspects to be investigated, but definitely can significantly improve communications in various hostile environments.
