Study Name: Climatic and societal impacts of a “forgotten” cluster of volcanic eruptions in 1108-1110 CE Investigators: Guillet S., Corona C., Ludlow F., Oppenheimer C. & Stoffel M. Description and notes: ### The file entitled "Guillet_et_al_SciReports2020_N-VOLCv2_Reconstruction_500_2000CE.xlsx" contains the proxy records used to derive the Northern Hemisphere N-VOLCv2 reconstruction, as well as the N-VOLCv2 reconstruction itself. The file contains all the data needed to reproduce the Figure 2 shown in Guillet et al. (2020). It will also allow the user to reproduce the Figure S1 as well as the Tables S3 and S4 (see Supplementary Information). ### The file entitled "Guillet_et_al_SciReports2020_N-VOLCv2_Gridded_Temperature_Reconstruction_500_2000CE.nc" is a climate field reconstruction of extratropical Northern Hemisphere summer temperatures spanning the last 1500 years. The file contains the all the data needed to reproduce the Figure 4 shown in Guillet et al. (2020). It will also allow the user to plot the maps displayed in Figures S1, S2 and S3 (see Supplementary Information). ## This file is a netcdf composed of three main variables: # The first variable is entitled "JJA surface temperature anomaly". It will allows to map the user to annual maps of summer temperature anomalies for the period 500–2000 CE) # The second variable is entitled "Calibration-Validation Statistics". The calibration-validation provide information about the robustness of the reconstruction. The first array allows to display the r2 statistic while the second, third and fourth arrays allow to display the RE, R2 and CE statistics respectively. We provide in this netcdf all grid points for which calibration-validation statistics are above 0. However, please note that only grid points with a CE > 0.1 were used for the spatial representation of temperature anomalies in Guillet et al. (2020). # The third variable is entitled "Summer_Cooling_Persistence". It allows to map the persistence of summer cooling (in years) for each gridpoint after the major volcanic eruptions of the last 1500 years. The file entitled "Guillet_et_al_SciReports2020_Supp_Info_Table_S1_S2_Historical_Sources.xlsx" provides information about all the historical sources used in Guillet et al. (2020).
