Southwest Atlantic: 259248, 6/381, [ 55.258°S 55.6°W], 1867 m; 1090287, 4/123, [ 57°11’S 63°51’W], 2439 m; 1090290, 5/235, [ 59°34’S 68°16’W], 1830 m. Southwest Pacific: 1242685, 14/1270, [ 57.567°S 125.108°W], 851– 933 m. Eastern Indian: 1090259, 38/7, [ 57°25’09”S 149°19’18”E], 600 m.
Remarks: This is one of the most common species of Lanceola, relatively widespread, occurring in all the world’s oceans except the Mediterranean Sea. It seems to prefer near-surface layers but descends to depths exceeding 3000 m, but more often to depths of 1000–2000 m ( Vinogradov et al. 1982 /96). The only previous Southern Ocean record is by Woltereck (1927), from the Eastern Indian Ocean Sector ( 64°35’S 85°25’E), from 400–0 m. Thus, the above are new records for the Antarctic Zone of the Southwest Atlantic Sector with an additional record from the Eastern Indian Ocean Sector.
