Pedionis (Pedionis) yunnana sp. nov.
(Figs. 2 A–C, 3 C–D, 6 A–F)
Description. Length. Male 3.2 – 3.3 mm, female 3.5 mm.
Coloration. Male (Figs. 2 A, 3C) pale brown with light brown spots. Face and pronotum yellowish brown, with a few dark brown spots. Scutellum ochraceous with numerous dark brown spots. Forewings pale brown, venation dark brown with white spots. Legs brown with dark spots.
Morphology. Body comparatively thin. Pronotum (Fig. 2 C) strongly convex on anterior margin. Hind tibial spinulation R1 11, R2 9, R3 5.
Male genitalia. Pygophore(Fig. 6 A) elongate, caudal margin produced into acutely angled process and one row of fine setae along ventral margin. Subgenital plate narrow and long, with marginal setae. Style and connective similar to those in Pedionis garuda. Aedeagus (Figs. 6 C, D) similar to that in Pedionis lii, but with one pair of slender spine-like processes apically; dorsal connective as in Pedionis rufoscutellata Huang and Viraktamath.
Female. Similar in overall coloration to male. Ovipositor slightly projecting beyond pygophore. Seventh sternite convexly produced, median projection strongly concave apically.
Distribution. China: Yunnan (Zhengyuan).
Material examined. Holotype: male, China: Yunnan province, Zhengyuan county (23°90΄N, 100°88΄E), 24 August 2009; Paratypes: 1 male, 1 female, same data as holotype, all collected by Zhang Bin.
Remarks. The new species resembles Pedionis rufoscutellata Huang and Viraktamath externally, but differs in having the caudodorsal angle of the pygophore produced into an acutely angled process and the aedeagal shaft sinuately curved.
Etymology. The specific name refers to the type locality, Yunnan province, China.
