# Dataset for: Dark-state phase transition to a dark soliton in a dissipative Bose–Hubbard chain

This dataset contains the simulation and experimental data used to produce the
figures in:

> R. Ceulemans, S. E. Begg, M. J. Davis, and M. Wouters,
> *"Dark-state phase transition to a dark soliton in a dissipative Bose–Hubbard chain"*,
> accepted (2026). Preprint: [arXiv:2509.25707](https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2509.25707)

The companion plotting code is available at:
[github.com/RobbeCeulemans/dark-state-phase-transition-to-dark-soliton](https://github.com/RobbeCeulemans/dark-state-phase-transition-to-dark-soliton)

## Usage

Unzip this archive so the resulting `darkstatephase_data/` folder sits directly
next to the `Fig_1`–`Fig_4` folders of the GitHub repository, i.e. at the
repository root. The plotting scripts reference these files by relative path
and will not run without it.

## Contents

| Folder | Used by | Figures |
|---|---|---|
| `fig2_critical_loss/` | `Fig_2/switchingtimes.jl`, `Fig_2/soliton.jl` | Figure 2(b)/2(c), Figure B1 (Appendix B) |
| `fig3_soliton_dynamics/` | `Fig_3/soliton_instab.jl` | Figure 3(a)/3(b), 3(c)/3(d), B2 (Appendix B) |
| `fig4_3d_twa/` | `Fig_4/phasediagram.jl` | Figure 4(a)/4(b), E1 (Appendix E) |

## Third-party data:

The experimental phase-boundary data in `fig4_3d_twa/ExpData.mat` was **not** produced as
part of this work. It reproduces a dataset first published in:

> R. Labouvie, B. Santra, S. Heun, and H. Ott,
> *"Bistability in a Driven-Dissipative Superfluid"*,
> Phys. Rev. Lett. **116**, 235302 (2016).

It was kindly provided directly by the authors of that paper for the purpose
of overlaying their experimental phase boundary on Figure 4 and Figure E1.
This file is **not covered by the license below** and all rights to it remain with them. Any
further reuse of `ExpData.mat` should be directed to the authors of the 2016
paper above.
